Scar Subcision Procedure in California
How is Scar Subcision Performed?
Scar subcision is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anesthesia, primarily used for treating rolling scars. During the procedure, a 20 gauge needle or a Nokor needle (18 gauge) is inserted adjacent to the scar. The needle is positioned with the bevel upwards, parallel to the skin surface, and moved back and forth in a fan-like motion under the scar. This technique helps release the fibrous bands at the dermal or deep dermal subcutaneous plane.
Benefits of Scar Subcision
The primary aim of subcision, also known as subcutaneous incisionless surgery, is to break the fibrotic strands that tether the scar to the underlying subcutaneous tissue. By detaching the rolling scar from the deeper skin, the depression is lifted. This effect is supported by the formation of a small bruise, which aids in preventing fibrous strands from reforming. Additionally, the connective tissue that forms during normal wound healing further supports the lifted area, contributing to the long-term improvement of the scar’s appearance.
